A designer Python bivittatus shows up in Queensland, Australia

On any given day in the USA, it is possible to find news reports of giant boas or pythons that have escaped from their owners and are roaming the streets large urban areas as well as small towns. In most locations, these snakes cannot survive. But, due to their popularity in the pet trade, they have been exported to other countries – in some locations where they may be able to survive and reproduce. Its just one female snake for a species to colonize a new locality – because they are capable of both storing sperm and facultative parthenogenesis. Here is a recent story of a large Python bivittatus showing up in Queensland, Australia.
